Tummy time

Not a huge fan of tummy time, but I managed to get some smiles out of him yesterday!

Crazy hair day

Today was crazy hair day at camp!

Kaden let me use my old crimper that I've had since the 3rd grade on his hair :)

Make that SIX

I was just yesterday writing about those things we dread...

Yesterday Nic and I decided to convert Kaden's bed to a toddler bed. He was not crawling out of his crib; although he could if he wasn't scared to do it. For the past 6 weeks Kaden has woken up SCREAMING from his naps and from bed time in the morning. SCREAMING for mommy and daddy to come "get you, bring Kaden downstairs." At first it scared us because we thought something was wrong. After rushing upstairs, we realized that everything was fine, but had no idea what caused him to get so upset. This has been going on now for awhile and his bed time and naps have gotten a lot shorter. I think he's quite possibly exhausted. I know we are.

Kaden is very vocal... there is nothing that he can't figure out how to say... but for some reason he will not tell us why he's crying or what's making him so upset. I thought it was just a stage and it would pass... I tried setting an alarm clock, putting toys in his crib, telling him nap/bed time wasn't over yet... Nothing is making him wake up happy.

Nic thought maybe he felt trapped in his crib and if he could get out and play when he woke up, he'd be happier. We tried it and last night he slept in his converted toddler bed. He didn't get out all night. He woke up at 6 a.m. (this is the typical screaming time) screaming again... He finally got out of his crib about 30 minutes later but did not play with anything in his room, didn't read a book, didn't put on a CD. He just cried for us. I'm throwing in the towel... I have no clue what's wrong. But I do know that this 6 a.m. and shortened naps is making me CRAZY.

Busy

Do you ever have those moments as a parent... the ones that you dread because you know the outcome will be great but to get there will possibly be hell?

Nic and I have had FIVE of these in the past month! And to be quite honest, they haven't been as bad as we thought:

All in the past month we have taken away Kaden's chompers, gotten Cam past that waking up after 4 hours hump, put Cam upstairs in his own bed, potty trained Kaden and got Cam to fall asleep unswaddled.

I'm quite proud!! Everything is going smoothly so far. Cam sleeps at night now between 11 and 12 hours straight! One night he actually went 13 hours. Kaden hasn't had an accident in 7 days! Cam is able to put himself to sleep unswaddled without putting up too much of a fuss!

Kaden's been on a 3 week break from camp which starts back up again Monday. I think we are both ready for camp to start; yesterday he told me, "I don't like home..." I just haven't wanted to take him out anywhere since we started potty training!! However, today we met some friends at story time at the library and he did great going on the potty there! I'm so relieved... it really was a weekend from hell but it was SO worth it!

We've been spending our days at Grammie and Pop's pool- Kaden is getting very brave and starting to put his head under the water. He runs and jumps in like a little fishy. I think swim lessons are in our near future.

Cam is really starting to reach for toys and it's fun to watch him learn. He loves the jumparoo and all the toys around it. He really started talking a lot this week, lots of "ah and ahgoos." Kaden always talks back to him with, "yeah?, yeah Cam!" I love when he notices me from far away and when he turns his head to my voice! Sweet little thing...

3 months

It seems as if the time has flown by and our little bean is now 3 months old!!

When Cam was a newborn, I held him and rocked him a lot, thinking, I better take advantage of this... He's gonna get big fast. And he did. I don't miss those first few weeks of exhaustion, but I'll always miss that sleeping newborn on my chest. I can't think of a greater feeling in the world than that.

As Cam gets older, I look forward to those milestones he's getting close to! I love when they can sit up on their own and see the world from a different perspective. But I cherish the milestones he's meeting now! I love watching him learn. You can see the wheels turning as he tries to reach and grasp an object. He loves toys with lights and I could watch him for hours figuring out how to make them light up. He kicks his legs when he's excited and coos.

He doesn't talk nearly as much as Kaden, but who does, really?!? I feel like he will be much more quite, but he'll be sweet, melting our hearts with his smile. Cam is still very smiley and loves to smile back and a smiling face! He has laughed only a few times, but it's a wonderful sound to hear that baby giggling. I think Kaden will make him laugh a lot when he's older.

I feel like Cam has been a part of our lives for years. Our routine, which had gotten torn to pieces when we brought him home, is now a part of our every day life. He eats, plays and sleeps, and is a happy boy when we follow in that order. I feel like Kaden probably doesn't remember life without Cam! He asks where he is when he wakes up, loves to hug and kiss him and loves to show him and teach him about the world. Yesterday he tried to turn Cam's head toward me and said, "that's momma, Cam!" He said momma... even though he calls me mommy. Wow, that kid impresses me every day.

Cam has started to fall asleep in the car, which is both great and not-so-great. Kaden hated the car and cried a lot at this age. Cam may start out crying, but settles down pretty quickly once the car gets moving. Most of the time, if Cam falls asleep, he doesn't nap when we get home... and then is a little cranky until the next nap time. Maybe he'll get to a point where I can transfer him to bed!!! Nah, that would definitely be wishful thinking.

Happy 3 months, baby Cam. You've brought so much joy to our lives in such a short time. We love you!!

Not impressed by the Bumbo... or Kaden... or me...

Cutest stinkin' 3 month old I know!!

Potty update: We are still potty training and it's going better! No accidents yesterday and none yet today. On a few occasions, Kaden has yelled, "potty" running toward the bathroom. I realized praise is the greatest reward... :)

Potty Training

I will start out by saying... I think we are insane.

...But I just feel like it's time to go on the potty! The reason I feel this way is because Kaden tells us when he is going pee pee. And he tells us when he is going poop (is there a better term, honestly?). Last week he had a few days of some bad diapers (TMI) which caused a lot of redness and soreness on his cute booty. Enough's enough, right?

We stayed home all weekend and set the timer for 10 minutes. We had NO accidents on Saturday but a TON of screaming.

We set the timer for 15 minutes all day Sunday. We had 3 accidents and a TON of screaming.

Today we are using his potty watch which plays music every 30 minutes. We have had no pee pee accidents before nap time. He started to poop in his underwear right after lunch but I was able to rush him to the bathroom and he finished going on the potty.

We're exhausted.

ALL of us.

We've bribed with fruit snacks, cookies (yes, you heard it here first... My kid has been given a cookie by Mommy and Daddy), stickers, matchbox cars and books.

I was hoping he would have it down by the end of the weekend!! I thought wrong. But we're still going strong... maybe by the end of the week??!? I took the boys to the park today and Kaden managed to hold it till we got back home- over an hour later! But he just doesn't WANT to go. We still fight it when the timer goes off. Is he too young? If you have any suggestions, let me know!!

A few picture of the park this morning.

A bucket truck came to fix one of the street lights at the park- Kaden was very excited because we have a truck book which talks about bucket trucks fixing lights, so it was nice to see one in person :) Cam had fun in the stroller and not in the carrier... and slept the whole walk home! Love those boys! Next project for the insane is getting Cam to sleep unswaddled. Oy!

Sleep!!!

Nic and I realized that Cam was waking up at night every 4-5 hours because he had fallen into that routine, and not because he was hungry. We started our sleep experiment with him Sunday night in which Nic got up with him and rocked him back to sleep when he woke up. They did this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday night, Cam slept for 8 straight hours!! On Thursday and Friday night, he slept almost 9 hours! I'm absolutely thrilled and even feel a bit refreshed! Looks like it's about time for Cam to sleep in his own bed.

In other Cam news, Cam laughed last night! Laughing with infants cracks me up because it usually starts out as a pout and ends up as a laugh. That's exactly what happened when Nic was trying to stop him from crying last night. I was upstairs putting Kaden to bed when we heard a funny noise coming from downstairs. We ran to the steps where Nic and Cam were cracking up. Can't wait till we get it on video! He and Kaden have both smiled at 4 weeks and laughed at 11 weeks.

After posting this I went back and looked up a video of Kaden laughing at 12 weeks... They are wearing the same shirt as in the picture above and look just alike, I think. Check it out here!
