22 month update

Kaden seems like a different child since I last gave an update. He is such a big boy! Kaden LOVES to sing... in fact, he does it all day long. Nic and I wake up to him singing away in his crib every morning, and he sings non-stop until bedtime. His favorite song to sing is "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." He actually sings the entire song to the exact tune- and you can definitely pick out "star," "are," "high," and "sky" when he is singing. If he's not singing this song, he is typically making up his own song to the tune of it. For example, he sings about dinosaurs "nahnars" and sings this word over and over to the tune of Little Star. In my car he requests "gah-gick" (music) and we play a nursery rhyme CD in which he sings along by singing out the many of the words in the song. It completely amazes me every time. Sometimes when one song ends, he is able to name the next song before it starts!

Kaden is now able to put 3 words together to make a sentence! "I got it!" and "Kahgen have it" are a few of the newest ones (he calls himself either Kahgen or Aiden) or . He also can describe what has happened by putting 3 words together (not quite a sentence but more like the main words of a story) like "kitty, hat, tall" when he stacked 5 hats on top of the cat's head!

He is getting to be a very independent boy. Kaden wants to do EVERYTHING by himself and rarely asks for help any more. Today at Be-Dazzled, he asked for his water out of the diaper bag which was sitting up high on a table. I said I would get it for him and he said "No, Kahgen" and reached up as high as he could and pulled it out of the bag. We hear "no, Kahgen" a lot. He has also mastered eating with a spoon! At first he was able to scoop the food and about halfway to his mouth would turn the spoon over. Now that's he's got it, he fed himself soup for dinner last night! What a huge difference that makes during meal time!

Kaden also has some big news... He started preschool last week! We had been there twice for about an hour back in December so he could see his class, participate with the other kids, and meet his teachers. His first day went much better than expected. He walked from the parking lot all the way to his class holding on to his lunch bag (looked like such a big boy!). He helped me put his stuff into his cubby and then got a bit hesitant to enter his class. He finally did with a little nudge, and only cried for a few minutes after I left. I called to check on him after a couple of hours and heard he was doing great! Tuesday (his 3rd day of school) Nic pulled on to the street where his school is and he said "Vicky!" which is one of his teachers. Last week they learned about static electricity and winter. He loves to play outside on the "beep beeps and bikes." So far, we couldn't be happier with our first school experience!

One more thing that has completely baffled me is his knowledge of concepts such as tall, heavy and cold. It's absolutely amazing to watch this kid learn. He's such a smart little cookie and I am having a blast watching him grow.

First Haircut

Nic and I broke down and got Kaden a real haircut (versus doing it ourselves in his highchair) before Thanksgiving. It turned out to be more of a trim, but Kaden enjoyed his visit with Nic's hairdresser!

And the famous "after" shot!

We had Emily Mulkey take pictures of our entire family (mom's side) during Thanksgiving. Here are a few of my favorites!

Wow. I have been behind on my blogging. For now, here are some pictures of pottery I painted during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Enjoy!
