Cam walking

I just realized I haven't posted a video of Cam walking yet. He's getting faster, too!

14 month update

A little late for the 14 month update, but we've been busy!

Kaden starts camp a week from Wednesday, so the boys and I have been trying to stay busy this summer.

Cam's made some big changes in the last couple of weeks. At 14 months, Cam:
-Only takes one nap per day. He naps in the afternoon at the same time Kaden does. Thinking about keeping Kaden busy this summer, it was really important that we get out of the house! So... since Cam wasn't consistently sleeping in the morning anyway, we thought the best thing would be to drop the morning nap. Cam had a hard time at first, but is now pretty used to it. He goes to sleep between 1-1:30
-Still wears size 4 diapers
-Is wearing 12-18 month clothes but can fit into some 18-24 month tops
-Has 4 teeth on top and 3.5 on the bottom! His bottom right is cutting through now
-Stopped communicating... which pretty much scared me to death! He was signing some, and saying a few words here and there, but stopped doing most of that. In the last few days I have noticed that he is starting to do more communicating and saying some of the words he used to. I'm not exactly sure what to make of that, but perhaps he was overly focused on...
-Walking!!!! At about 13.5 months, Cam finally let go of the walls and furniture and started doing a little walking on his own, thank the Lord!! Today he is walking probably about 75% of the time and crawling only a little bit. He seems so much happier to walk around, carry things and play with things standing up.
-Can stand up from the middle of the floor. Nic and I are quite impressed with this because we can't exactly remember when Kaden did it, but it seems like it was a long time after he started walking.
-Is eating better!!! He started eating better in Omaha and has continued since we've been home. He's loving blueberries, red grapes and watermelon. He wasn't eating ANY fruit before our trip. He will also eat a little meat, mostly chicken or turkey. He loves corn and crackers of any variety. He likes chicken patties (which are actually veggie patties), salmon sticks and spinach/broccoli patties as well.
He isn't really into yogurt anymore
-Signs "more" really accurately (he does the actual sign for more now) and he does it, with cues, for things other than just more food
-Loves the bath and tries to crawl away from us when we are about to take him out
-Loves to play peekaboo with Kaden at the table. Cam will hide his head behind anything on the table and wait for Kaden to notice
-Claps when you say yay!
-Claps for himself when he's done something he's proud of
-Loves waving bye to the ladies at the daycare
-Barks whenever he hears a dog bark. He also barks when he wants to see Roxy.
-Surprises me by what he understands. Today I told him I needed to put sunscreen on his tummy and he lifted up his shirt.
-Still LOVES being out of the house. He rarely cries when we are out of the house but gets bored easily at home
-Loves to open and close doors, drawers and cabinets. He loves to take things out of cabinets (even though they are safety locked) and put them back in.
-Loves to put things inside boxes or bags and then take them out again
-Loves to stack things
-Is severely attached to me... might be getting slightly better since he started walking.
-Is severely attached to Baby Slone, which he calls "Tss." Cam takes Slone everywhere and Slone is no longer a white seal...
-When you ask who's that cute little boy (in a picture) sometimes he puts his hand on his chest and says "EEE!" [me!]. He will also do this for anything that starts, "Who's my..." For example, "Who's my busy little bee?" "Who's my silly little sea lion?" Etc!
-Points at things he wants
-Loves being outside
-Is still rear facing in the car, but rode to Omaha forward facing. I thought he'd be more excited about it than he was.
-Is a climber. He puts his leg up on anything that he can to try to climb on top. He climbs on the ottoman all the time. He has climbed on Kaden's table and the couch.
-Is able to climb onto and off of the dump truck riding toy
-Always snuggles when I rock him to sleep but he likes to face out and sniff Slone when we do
-Most nights when I put him to bed, he rolls onto his right side with his face into the bumper while I rub his back. Then he rolls onto his back and we blow each other a kiss goodnight
-Always sleeps on his belly, and always snuggles with either his bumper or Slone
-Started to love books, especially a picture book with baby's first 100 words and Pajama Time
-Loves If You're Happy and You Know It and claps along.
-Does the hand motions to one of Kaden's Purim songs from school where he puts his hands on his face
-Doesn't love the pool, but doesn't hate it either. He loses his attention in the pool quickly though.
-Is tan! He has a cute little farmer's tan already this summer.
-Is SOOOOO stubborn
-Is SOOOOO senstitive. If he gets hurt, it takes him awhile to get over it.
-Is SOOOOO cute. When he smiles or laughs, it completely changes my mood. He can be such a sweet little nugget!

Omaha 2011

We just got home from our annual spring trip to Omaha. We left Thursday, drove to KC to visit my best friends from college, and then drove to Omaha on Saturday morning.

Looking back on our trip, I am really excited about the memories the boys made, especially Kaden. When I asked him what his favorite part of our trip was, he said, "Swimming at G-pa's house."

Growing up in Omaha, I spent every waking warm day at my grandparents' pool. I think I was underwater for half the summer. I love the idea that my boys have the same childhood memories that I have!

I was not great at taking pictures during our trip but I hope to post more from my Dad's camera. We got to meet my niece Harper for the first time and spend a lot of time with family. Kaden became brave at the pool and slid down the slide and jumped off the diving board! I'm excited for him to take swim lessons this summer and get better about going under the water. Cam started eating better on our trip and had a great time at the zoo, especially in the aquarium.

The Boys

We got pictures taken with Emily Mulkey Photography when my Dad was in town in April. This picture explains pretty much how it ended...

There were some really great pictures that came out of the session.

But it sure is difficult to get 2 3-year-olds and a 1 year old to cooperate at the same time!

School's Out for the Summer

Wowza. Kaden has been out of school for 2 weeks now! I think we are both eagerly waiting for camp to start at the beginning of July. In the meantime, we have been staying busy with some planned activities to the zoo, gymnastics, story times, puppet shows and the library. We are going to try some splash parks, Jump Street and maybe a movie or two in the upcoming weeks. I'm having a good time getting out of the house with both the boys, but it is really a lot of work. The doctor recommended that I put Cam down for a nap twice a day, but that doesn't work AT ALL with trying to get out of the house in the morning. So about 2 weeks ago, I cut out Cam's morning nap. He had been fighting his morning nap anyway and most days didn't fall asleep at all. By the time the afternoon nap comes around, he is READY. I have also been taking a few workout classes and leaving the boys in the day care. Cam LOVES it there with so much to do and play with. Kaden was hesitant, but that's just Kaden. He didn't cry, however; and has warmed up to the idea by now.

Kaden has actually been a good little boy lately. He went through a little spurt where I wasn't quite sure what he was trying to prove, but now he's been a sweet, polite and helpful little boy. He still cracks me up daily with the things he says:

Me: Kaden do you want to go on a wagon ride?
Kaden: No
Me: Well, what do you want to do?
Kaden: I want to hit this city (From Ke$ha, Tik-Tok, in case you were wondering)

Nic and I were teasing Kaden about dropping him off at Home Depot and having the "scary lady" who works there babysit him. Kaden said, "Don't Daddy, the lady at Home Depot freaks me out."

Kaden's been a great teacher to Cam. The other day they were standing looking out of the window together and Cam babbled something and pointed out the window. Kaden said, "yeah, Cam, that's the window!" They are starting to have FUN together... cracking each other up!

Cam. Cam, Cam, Cam. He had been a GROUCH all last week and I got worried that something wasn't right. Nic took him to the doctor on Tuesday afternoon and, as bad as it sounds, I was praying for an ear infection to explain his mood. Well, I was praying for some kind of prescription that would fix his mood. Turns out, he's fine. No prescription needed. Just maybe some kind of weird attachment disorder to me. He is overly attached. He is completely fine around Nic... doesn't make a peep. And then when I get home, he cries, screams and fusses if I'm not holding him. It is sweet, but it's so hard to deal with every single day. New plan: quality time with Dad. I don't think Cam knows how fun Nic is yet. Hopefully he will learn... SOON!!

Along with the attachment stuff, Cam is eating poorly. It's worrying me to no end and I'm tired of hearing that he'll eat when he's hungry. I NEVER worried about Kaden eating and this is something completely new to me. He's picky about texture, and the things he was eating (yogurt, grilled cheese, etc) he's not eating anymore. Never a dull moment!

I think Cam finally lost the walking battle. He's been balanced, steady on his feet and able to take steps for almost 3 months now. Last week he stood on mulch, crouched down, picked it up and stood up over and over... I was thinking, seriously kid... if you can do that, you can certainly take a step!! But whenever we "made" him walk, he would get MAD! This week he has started walking from here to there on his own, no forcing and he's very proud of himself. He still is crawling quite a bit but hopefully in the next few weeks he'll realize he's a lot faster on his feet.

I quit nursing Cam last weekend. That last time is always hard for me, but we got through it. Tomorrow we'll use our last frozen bag of milk, which we've been putting in a sippy cup mixed with whole milk for the past couple of weeks. Almost 14months! I'm proud of myself for it honestly, and I'm so thankful to Nic being so supportive from day 1. I honestly couldn't have done it as long as I did without his encouragement and support. He's a good hubby :)

So between all the frustrations with Cam's eating and being attached, along with the emotions of finishing nursing and him finally walking, I'm honestly drained. I'd take a trip to the beach, any day now please!!!

Mommy/Cam snuggle time before bed. One of the rare times he has fallen asleep on me!
